So not only a five and a half year wait since the last release, but z23 months of a pandemic

Well my goodness . . . I’ve just discovered this site, been reading through the posts – I come from the “front panel” days. Nova 3 copies – no stack, think up your own diagnostic routines in the moment and put them in (in binary machine language!!) on the front panel – then onto the “modern” stuff; CP/M, Z-80’s (DMS-3,4 HiNet – like, WOW! 500kbps master/slave network! Wrote my first/own “intranet” mail system straight into the CP/M 2.2 BIOS ;) I loved it! Slackware was my natural go-to once I discovered it. I first got my taste of Linux from a CD in the back of a book by somebody Ball. it was an early RedHat. I was running it on a ‘486SX with 32MBytes RAM. Having come from Digital Research Concurrent CP/M 86, I thought that was a LOT of RAM . . . little did I know what was about to start happenning!!! Actually, I think Bill has turned out to be a decent sort of a bloke, but I didn’t think so at the time. The vast increase in computing power and RAM required to run his operating systems felt like a sweetheart deal with the hardware manufacturers – but I’ve let go of that.

Anyway, I reckon Patrick and his crew are awesome. I haven’t met any of them personally, but I reckon we’d get on just fine ;>)

Yeah well, I admit to using Mint or Lubuntu on my desktop, but . . . for anything serious like proper network infrastructure I definitely still go Slack!

Meh. Wasn’t so bad. Try installing Windows (3.1) back then.

I have also had the pleasure of installing Linux (Slackware in particular) via floppy disks. Boy was it a pain in the butt thinking back, but back then it was required.

They’re drinking the beauty of Linux, while you seem to be stuck in Mac/Windows land. Grow up!
